The topics that the author was able to reveal or identify are of employee participation, the psychological contract, leadership and management, resistance to change, learning, communication and effects of change on people.

Out of all the topics, a review of the research on each topic is done, where findings are critically analyzed and evaluated with evidence and knowledge form other published sources.

The author found out that on these topics, literatures give little attention to how managers or leaders responsible for change can manage and lead change and tend to be descriptive. On some issues, there appears to contradiction and difference in views. In conclusion, a few questions are formulated, to encourage future researchers to address issues that are unclear and need more attention. However, several literatures touch on a number of issues regarding change and change management, but also give little attention to some issues that concern change and change management, some of the issues that are given little or no attention are the most crucial and important ones.

The purpose of this literature review is to identify, evaluate and analyze the issues and ideas that have been established about change and change management, and what their strengths and weaknesses are, using a handful of published academic sources. Most authors clearly state the importance of ensuring that employees are engaged and involved when leading change but neglect the negative effects that employee participation has on the change process. According to Beer, ; Bennis, ; Dunphy, ; French et al.

The research on this issue is biased. It only focuses on the positives or benefits of employee participation bottom-up but does not address the negative effects of it. According to Hayespg. These may be that it can be time consuming, and can affect the whole change initiative if those involved have less or no technical expertise, which will also affect the course and outcome of the change negatively. This is an issue that could have been addressed, but to my surprise, it was not mentioned in any of the literatures.

Another weakness regarding the research on this topic or issue is that the how part was not addressed at all. A question that I still ask my self is that, how can employees be involved or made to participate? How should managers go about involving and ensuring that employees are committed to the change initiatives? There is much of a gap regarding this issue amongst the literature as some views appear to be different while others appear to be similar.

Even Hayespg. It was further stated that a breach in the psychological contract by the employer leads to the employee investing less effort in work, being less inclined to innovate and less inclined to respond positively to changes. On the other hand there was a noteworthy point that all researches touch but differ in opinions. This point is that as much as the psychological contract is linked to commitment, it does not affect the loyalty of the employee to the organization.

The research on this regarding this topic was good looking at the fact that the importance, roles and functions of leadership are clearly outlined and stressed amongst the literature. All literatures define change as a process and also define leadership as a process, but surprisingly, the issue of situational leadership was not addressed. What type of leadership style is needed for which stage of change is a question that has been given little attention.

In a study by Michael Stanleigh a group of top executives were surveyed and it was identified that one of the main reasons for change failure was people.

I found this concept open to interpretation as it may be argued that failure to change through people could be due to the lack of change acceptance by the followers or poor implementation by leaders.
